Update - Government of Saskatchewan Implements PST on Sport Fees for 18+ as of October 1
SSA reached out to Virtus Group, Chartered Professional Accountants & Business Advisors LLP to clarify a couple of items regarding the PST implementation:
Coach and Official Education - No PST charge is required.
Registration Fees - 18+ player registration fees passed through Member Organization (MO) should be charged PST at MO level (if MO is required to charge PST). SSA will not be collecting PST on member registrations.
Member Organizations collecting PST: will be required to submit their PST number during membership renewal.
Exemptions: Any MO that is GST exempt, is PST exempt. Criteria for charging GST is the threshold of $50K small supplier limit. Therefore, if a MO is above the $50K threshold, there may be a percentage of the fee they charge that could have items that would be exempt and therefore PST would be charged only on eligible amount within the fees.GST Rules are long-standing and haven’t changed. By and large a lot of MO’s are under small supplier limit. There is no specific PST small supplier limit. PST is tied to GST, therefore if a MO is collecting GST, they would collect PST for participants 18 years of age or above.
Tournament Admission Fees - Amateur sport tournaments, no PST. PST only if 90% or more of the performers/participants are being remunerated for their participation.
