Coach Education Programs / Registration
Canada Soccer is responsible for the development of curriculum and licence streams for coaches from grassroots to professional and National Team environments. The two streams consist of the Grassroots Coach Education Program and the Advanced Coach Education Program.
Canada Soccer GRASSROOTS Coach Education Program
Saskatchewan Soccer is pleased to offer coach training for aspiring coaches across the province. In conjunction with Canada Soccer, we have made coach education more accessible by moving to a blended learning format allowing coaches to complete the theoretical part of the course online (Step 1) and the on-field component (Step 2) by attending an in person practical workshop.
Canada Soccer’s Grassroots Coach Education Program has four workshops based on Stages 1, 2, 3, and 7 of the Long-Term Player Development Model. The first three workshops, Active Start, FUNdamentals and Learn to Train, deal with soccer training and the importance of physical literacy for players up to 12 years of age. The fourth workshop is called Soccer for Life and focuses on working with players age 13 and older through to “masters soccer”. The Soccer for Life stage includes a wide array of participants who play for fun and fitness, those who enjoy recreational soccer, as well as those who prefer to play competitively but not at a high-performance level.

Please note:
Each of the workshops within Canada Soccer's Advanced Coach Education Program is built with an emphasis placed on the practical application of certain coaching skills, also known as 'competencies'. These competencies are expanded upon as the coach progresses through the program and will range from showing an understanding of the rules of small-sided-soccer to running an effective practice with players in a high performance environment.
