Member Update - September 8

Sep. 08, 2022

We stand together.

In the wake of the tragedies that have impacted James Smith Cree Nation and the community of Weldon, all of us in the SSA community send our deepest condolences to all the victims and families impacted. During this time of grief and healing it is important that we all take time to nurture ourselves and support each other in our community.

Hope for Wellness Helpline (1-855-242-3310) is available to all Indigenous peoples across Canada. The helpline provides 24 hours a day, seven days a week service by phone or online chat to those in need.

Update - Government of Saskatchewan Implements PST on Sport Fees for 18+

On September 7, representatives from Sask Sport and Virtus group held a webinar to discuss how sales tax will be applied to some admissions, entertainment, and recreation activities effective October 1. The webinar was presented to multiple community and provincial sport, culture, and recreation organizations. Because of this, not all of the specific items related to SSA and our Membership were answered. We will be following up with Sask Finance to gain a better understanding of the implications to SSA.

Next Steps for Saskatchewan Soccer Association:
- Reach out to Sask Finance for clarification on how to proceed.

Next Steps for Member Organizations:
- If your Member Organization is offering programming for participants under the age of 18 years, there are no further actions required. You are encouraged to keep up to date with the progress of this PST implementation and be aware that this PST charge MAY be required on fees in the future as determined by the Government of Saskatchewan.

If your Member Organization is offering programming for participants aged 18 years and older, please consider the following actions:
- Reach out to Sask Finance with any questions relating to GST or PST charges. As possible, collect all participant fees up front and in full before October 1, 2022, as all fees collected before this date are not subject to the additional PST charge.

Ensure all entities within your Member Organization are aware of these incoming changes and requirements, as applicable.
